Thomas Small
Thomas Small graduated from London Contemporary Dance School in 2000 and has since been awarded various commissions and awards for his work with his company, Smallpetitklein (Robin Howard Foundation Commission, ZONE 3 Commission and Bonnie Bird New Choreography Award). He also has been short-listed for the prestigious Place Prize twice.
In 2008, he was appointed Choreographer in Residence at The Space, Dundee. In 2009, Smallpetitklein was invited to become Company in Residence both at The Space and at The Byre Theatre in St Andrews. In 2009 through the Royal Opera House London initiative called Dancelines, Thomas was invited to be mentored by Royal Ballet Resident Choreographer, Wayne McGregor which led to the creation of a new duet presented at Royal Opera House London in November 2010.
In 2010, Thomas was awarded £200k from Scottish Arts Council/Creative Scotland to develop a year long project called Ignite, which was designed to get male dancers, across the country, interested in dance. He was also commissioned by NHS (National Health Service) to create a new production for school children which explored health related issues.
