Thinking and the Grinberg Method
Presented by Merav Gur Arie
Thinking is a physical experience. In the everyday flow of events we are usually not aware of this phenomenon, but given an effective content: creative, logical, emotional, imaginative and so on, a noticeable effect takes on as a physical experience, whether you are the thinker or you encounter thoughts of others. When we are moved from a thought, we will notice a change in body sensation.
As experiences are perceived, contained and expressed within our bodies, people have a strong tendency to “manage” them by creating repeating patterns of behavior. These patterns are repeated in the way we use, hold and move our bodies, in the way we breathe, tense specific muscles, stimulate energy, and pay attention. Pretty soon in life, a personal choreography is formed, unintentional and hard to control.
Thought or thinking is not an exception. “ going in circles”, inflexible opinions, constant worry, and many others can be described as thought patterns, and as such, become a part of our physical experience and body expression. Everyone (you as well) is imprinted with thinking habits that not only lead to similar outcomes again and again, but have a noticeable effect on body sensations and experiences.
Breaking thinking habits allows thought to freely find new dimensions and become lively. It is the essential condition for creative thinking and new inspiration, with our past knowledge available but not constricting. And as thoughts move easily, we enjoy more freedom, deeper physical sensations and openness to new experiences.
Merav Gur Arie is a licensed trainer of the Grinberg method.
The Grinberg Method is a structured way of teaching through the body. It uses touch, breath, movement, physical exercises, description tools and techniques to increase one's ability to pay attention and stop limiting patterns. To define what needs to be learned, the method combines each person's past experience with their present condition and wishes for the future. The aim is to attain greater health and more personal freedom to choose who and how to be in any given situation.
